Wow what a party!

Hi 501,

So what did you think of the Urban Garden Party on Saturday? Can you believe more than 500 people attended. I had such a good time. It was great to see so many happy faces and so many people having a good time celebrating our community. The Argus Leader wrote a nice piece about our celebration http://www.argusleader.com/article/20090920/NEWS/909200318. KSFY also reported about us: http://www.ksfy.com/news/local/59877082.html. I especially liked this picture (to the right) that the paper took of Nenubari. He was in my class last year. Who knew he was such an awesome dancer! What are your thoughts on these stories about Pettigrew Heights and the garden party?

Now that the garden harvesting has begun, has anyone tried any new recipes using food from the garden? I got some cucumbers the other day from my own garden, and we made a really yummy cucumber salad with yogurt sauce that night. Did any of you try Minnie's salsa? She had samples at the garden booth under the ten. I thought it pack a nice punch.

I hope we get permission to put the greenhouse up soon. Wouldn't it be neat to have lessons in there? Starting this week we are going to do a science unit on solar energy and the greenhouse has properties that we could study.

So tell me what you'd like to see happen with our garden and share any recipes that you like that uses foods from our garden.

I look forward to blogging with you!

Your Teacher,

Mrs. Smith
